Pediatric dental emergency
I just found out that my niece (4) has multiple cavities and needs a root canal of which they want to sedate her. I know her parents are very stressed and worried and are talking 2nd opinions. I recommended looking into the pediatric dental clinic at Cohen's, but have no first hand experience with this. I trust you ladies with this kind of stuff. Any recs I can give her? They are in Nassau.

We had a dental emergency a week ago when my son smashed his teeth & gums into the edge of our computer desk pushing his gums up and loosening 3 of his front teeth. His own dentist wouldn't see him until FIVE days later so I asked my Ped for a recommendation. I called DAFKO (in roslyn) and they took me the same day. I was so happy. They were terrific. They explained everything to me as well as to my 3 yr old that was going to happen. He never felt that comfortable at his old dentist- they were so good with him, I literally cried in their office, I was so touched & happy at how they were with him. They also told me that Cohen's at LIJ does have a ped dental on site for emergencies for the future & they are very good. Good Luck!

From my understanding, sedation at that age is best at
The hospital. My son will need to have some work done and will go to stony brook at the recommendation of a pediatric dentist. She also recommended LIJ.
That way, it's safer .. In the hands of highly trained people and in the appropriate setting (hospital vs office)
I was so scared to hear that .. But I really trusted the dentist.

Dr. Stacey Reynolds in Garden City, My daughter needed 2 root canals. They gave her sweet air, novacaine and she watched tv the entire time. Never complained about pain being in the chair being scared etc.
