I use them sometimes. Their delivery fee is $9.95. I think they have discounts on Wednesday deliveries and you can get a $1 off if you select a longer delivery window. For example, I received an order last week and selected a 6:30 - 10:00pm window instead of a 7-9. It allows them to consolidate deliveries a little better. It's not so bad since they give you a smaller window earlier in the day. They sometimes have coupons for free delivery but I never seem to qualify for one reason or another.

I like the service - they have a great variety of items, they take coupons plus you can shop off the circular. I also like that they save your shopping lists so you can go through and just click on what you need and get your shopping done in a few minutes.

I don't get too many out of stock items but when I do it always seems to something that is part of a recipe. But that's just Murphy's Law.

In a pinch, I think it's great. I found that I sometimes spend a little more then going to the store b/c they have a $60 minimum so I'll just add a couple of things if I am close to that but have everything I need. But I don't impulse shop so it probably evens out in the end.

Re: peapod

We do Fresh Direct. I've done Peapod a couple of times, I just prefer Fresh Direct.

It works and is worth it for us because

A) We food shop once every 3 weeks. My mom watches my son during the week, so m-f we eat there. Saturday we do take out and Sunday is back at my moms for family dinner. So we don't go through things fast.

B) We both work and have no time to get to the grocery store after work. Come the weekend we are running around doing errands, somehow food shopping never places on that list Chat Icon

I always make sure to the get just the essentials though. Things like paper towels, cleaning products etc are way more expensive. I run to Target or the $1 store for those.

I spend $200 on an order and like I said it lasts about 3 weeks. If you have a big list and need to food shop weekly I would forget it. There aren't that many good sales. Although, Peapod accepts coupons so that is a plus.

Re: peapod

I am a HUGE fan of Peapod. I haven't done my shopping in a grocery store since December.

I love it because I have been able to budget so much better having all of the numbers in front of me. If I go over budget, I just remove something. I don't have to hold up a line to re-figure costs or anything like that.

I also like it because getting the groceries in the house was a nightmare with the cats. I'd have to run a few bags in, slam the door because I was afraid they would get out, run back outside, throw some more bags in, and then by the time I was done, they were running off with frozen chicken legs half the time. Yes, I could just go shopping when DH is home, but we always seem to have something going on or we just want to relax.

Sometimes they do run out of items though. I've found that ordering the day before I want the food delivered often solves that problem.

Re: peapod

Love it because:

-I can do my food shopping from the couch
(much easier than bringing my children)

-the price is right on the screen so it helps with budget

-no heavy lifting of cans, bottles, etc.

-I like to go through the specials first

My complaints are that they don't always pick good, ripe fruit, they always slice my cold cuts too thick and when I order bakery bread (like a fresh italian bread) it's never fresh.

Sometimes I'll just run to a local market for cold cuts, fruit and bread.

I have done it since having DD (about 4 months). It's super convenient. I find that I actually spend less b/c I can't impulse buy. I pretty much just get what I need.

I have had issues with the meat that I have ordered. Some of the cuts have been really really bad. Not even "cook-able". I will say that when I called customer service about it they refunded my money, almost no questions asked. They were really nice.

Re: peapod

I use them when I have to. Not my favorite method. But it isn't so bad. I feel like their milk and cream are much closer to the expiration date than if I go to the store myself and pick it out. Sometimes the meat is not as good looking as if I go and get it myself either. Same goes for the veggies. But once in awhile it is fine. I much preferred fresh Direct when i lived in the city. If they deliver to your area, I'd use them over peapod. That being said, peapod sometimes ahs good deals and good coupons.

Re: peapod

I'm a Peapod fan.

I don't use them all the time now, but when I was sick last year and when DH had knee surgery in January, Peapod was a lifesaver.

If anything came that wasn't good, or too close to an expiry date, I called the 800 number and got an immediate credit, no questions asked.

Re: peapod

I've been using peapod regularly for a few years. I hate hate hate grocery shopping, so it's great for ppl like me. I usually have issues with fruit and meat. Every single time I order beef, it's gray. You'd think I would learn my lesson, but every few weeks, I'll buy some only to be disappointed again. Bananas are always bruised, and most soft fruit isn't the best quality. I usually get meat and produce at Giunta's. But for everything else, peapod is perfect.
