Pavers
For those of you with a paver patio, were the pavers laid over concrete, or something else?

Re: Pavers
crushed concrete I believe is the way that pavers are installed, for a sub base. That is what we have.

Re: Pavers
Hmm see we got quotes from 2 diff companies so far and one said pavers over concrete is the better way to go, and the other didn't over the concrete used crushed concrete, so we are confused.

Re: Pavers
the way that our contract explained it to us, is that if you use the crushed concrete, it is better for drainage. if you use solid concrete underneath, then the water only has one place to go and it pools up easier. this was the way it was explained to us.
And if you look at Nicolock's catalog, I believe it shows crush concrete. check out page 65 in the catalog

Re: Pavers
i'm sure you are right about a contractors preference. I guess it's what you need too in your yard. If you need or what drainage, then maybe hire someone that uses crushed concrete. GL make your decision.

Re: Pavers
I believe I was told that putting Cambridge pavers over solid concrete voids the warranty because it's more likely to cause efflorescence.

Oh really?? It's like a $1200 difference with the pavers over the solid concrete being more, so thats why were were thinking that maybe the crushed concrete wasn't as good, but if it voids the contract by having it over solid concrete then that's not the case. I gues smy decision has been made LOL

We were told efflorescence happens naturally. The patio place we went to pick the pavers had some different brands and they had new demo's and they were all doing the same thing.
We have it happening now and ours isn't on a concrete base. We were told it can take up to a year for the efflorescence to disappear.
To the OP, our paver guy did probably a 4-6 inch base of 2-3inch stone and tamped that. Then he added thin layers of crushed blue stone and tamped each layer. I probably have another 3 inches of that.
Next year we plan on doing the pavers over concrete around the pool. My parents did this and my neighbor. The only issue my parents had was that a water line for the pool filter was leaking so my dad needed to pick up the pavers, break up the concrete in that area and redo it when it was fixed. That is probably the only downside.
As far as brand we used the Imperial line by E.P. Henry
