PASSPORT HELP

So friends of ours are going to Riveria Maya at the end of the month (02/27 thrgh 03/6). They are going with another couple and are staying in this 2 floor villa.

Long story short; the other couple can't go as they just found out that she is pregnant with twins. So they have this villa all to themselves. She called me last night and asked if DH & I would want to come down and meet them for a long 4 day weeknd. All we need to do is pay for airfare.

We found decent airfare and were all ready to book, when DH asked "where was is passport?" I know where your passport is BUT mine is EXPIRED....I NEVER renewed it last year since our travel plans fell through.

I called this morning about expediting a passport - they said it take up to 2 weeks but its not guaranteed. Or they told me that I could wait until Fri - as that would make my trip within 14 days and I could make an appointment to go there and have it within a few days. I don't want to waste a vacation day to go down there if I don't have to.

I spoke to a few people who said that they got theirs back within the 2 weeks and one friend got hers back within 5 days - without expediting.

Am I pushing this - if I send everything out TONIGHT???

if you REALLY want to go, i would wait until friday, take the vacation day, and go down to the office.

i would not take the chance of booking the trip, mailing it tonight and then possibly not having a passport.
