Party at a park
If you have ever been to a birthday party at a park, or hosted one, how did you like it? I am contemplating having one for my DS's first bday due to such a large age span of all my family/friends kids. I don't want to have it at home!

Re: Party at a park
i have been to one, and am planning on having one labor day weekend.
i think it's fine as long as you have something for the kids to do, and enough seating for the adults.
we are having it near a carousel, so i'll probably buy some tickets for the kids to go if they would like. i also plan on bringing some park toys to entertain them and possibly having a game or two. my 5 year old will just want to run around with his friends, so it should be ok.
we'll be serving a brunch/lunch menu. starting with pastries and bagels and ending with hamburgers and hot dogs. (there are permanent grills in the park we are thinking of. instead of cake, i'm thinking decorate your own cupcake and a small cake for DS to blow out the candle.
for kids i think it's lots of fun. just have to make sure the adults mingle =)

Party at a park
I went to a first brithday at Diamond in the Pines which is I think Coram. It was great for the most part. They have a big pavilion where the party was set up. There's a huge playground right there too so most of the little ones were back and forth the whole time. DD and the kids had a blast and most of the parents were exhausted!

I went to a first birthday party at one. It was fine, they reserved a picnic area and brought in catered food, they had some activities for the kids.

Re: Party at a park
I had my second son's 1st BDay at Cedar Creek Park, my sister did the same for my neice. - I WISH I had done it for my frist rather than at the house.
The only downside is you're at the mercy of the weather .........
but, if youi get a decent day, it's awesome. I didn't hire any entertainment or anything formal at all - I brought a ton of sports gear, hula hoops, bubbles, sidewalk chalk etc - and my friends and cousins kids brought their own stuff as well - kids had a blast .......everyone, actually had a great time - and clean up was as easy as tossing everyting in the garbage and going home
We catered in 'picnic' type food - heroes, salads, etc. Very informal and laid back and fun
