Parks with nice picnic/bbq area in mid to eastern suffolk?
Having a family picnic and need a nice park with a nice, clean picnic area that has bbq capability. We are all brookhaven residents, but I am not very familiar with the brookhaven parks. Thanks!

There's Heckscher park on the south shore and Sunken Meadow park on the north shore. I think I've seen bbqs there.

The BBQ areas at Heckscher are CROWDED on the weekend .. BUT you can get a permit for a private pavillion at Heckscher and those are VERY nice.
Sunken Meadow is less crowded by the BBQ areas than Heckscher.. but it can still get pretty crowded.
Smith's Point is more of a beach than a park but they do have barbecues.. or at least they used to. It's another super crowded place though.. I wouldn't even bother trying to get near a grill unless you stake one out first thing in the morning.

Holtsville Park would meet your requirements. It's great. You can BBQ, they have a nice playground, pool, and animal preserve.
