If there is a mistake on your ticket

True or False?

Does it depend on what the mistake is?

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

let me add...

i once got a ticket for parking in the parking lot by my old apt complex...I was supposed to have a permit sticker displayed in the window...(the mgmt office ran out of them - whole other story, but as a resident i was allowed to park there in the interim) - anyway, the judge threw the ticket out. Why? because he said the officer just wrote "Unauthorized vehicle" - and the judge said the officer was supposed to write what vehicles ARE ALLOWED to park there...Chat Icon weird. but i wasn't about to argue with the judge Chat Icon

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

My mom once got a parking ticket for an Orage Bentley. I kid you not.

As you might assume my mom is not a pimp and therefore does not own an orange Bentley, so it was thrown out.

But this time she got a ticket for parking in a non-space in a aprking lot. it was a daya fter the snowstorm, and it was once a spot, so the line was faded and yellow, and barely visible below the snow. If it's daytime, and htere's no snow, you can tell they are old lines, when comparing them to the current lines which are much brighter, but at the time it looked like a spot to her. However, the ticket says her car is gray, and it's really beige. Is that enough and should I just submit it online?

The reason I'm asking is because if I submit it online I also can't submit photos to prove that it was ambiguous, but if it's actually enough,d oing it online would save time.

Also, we got a parking ticket the other day, we were stopped in a bus stop. The cop handed the ticket to FH and said "I made a mistake, if you find it it's yours" We couldn't find the mistake and we're wondering if he was just messing with us. haha

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

i wouldn't do it online, i'd take pics and send them in, along with a copy of the insurance card, the title, or whatever document it is that shows the color/year/make/model of the car...

not sure what to make of the "mistake" ticket...but i'd plead that one and try to fight it too...it's not your job to find the mistake, leave that up to the judge.Chat Icon

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

true..parking ticket or traffic ticket. Also I heard that if the patrol car that stops you for a traffic violation has a burnt out headlight or tail light or something like that you can point that out and they cannot write you a ticket or something. At least you could fight it. Their car has to be able to pass inspection.

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

True, the ticket should be thrown out if there is a mistake on its face. That said, I don't think I would do it online either. Unfortunately, tickets are a big revenue maker for villages and towns.

If ANYTHING is wrong about the ticket you should fight it. The ticket is defective on it's face if the plate, car model, time, date etc are wrong.

I fight tickets all the time and typically send in photos. The most recent one was because the sign noting no parking between certain times was missing. There was just an empty pole.

We had another last year where the red & white no parking sign was painted over in all red (not legible) and we got out of that ticket too - with pictures. We learned from neighbors that the sign had been painted that way for monthsChat Icon

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

I am fighting a ticket now because I never got the actual ticket. By the time I found out about it (paying another ticket online under my plate) there was a late fee. I disputed it and the $55 fine is now $32....and I will probably just pay it since DH was parked in a no parking zone (well not really but it was a special night regulation zone).

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

In NY State a Police Officer has 1 year from the date of a violation to write a ticket. IE, if there is something wrong with the ticket and it is within 1 year they can re-issue the ticket and write it the correct way. It does look bad for the officer and is definitely worth fighting. It also depends on the judge and town you received the ticket in.

Re: Parking tickets.: True or Fa;se

Also if the patrol car has something wrong with it, IE headlight out or whatever, it doesn't make someone speeding not get a ticket. It has nothing to do with it.

How did you find that photo of my mom!?!?!!?!?!

This was in NYC, by the way.

And the markings on the ground were completley obscured by snow. There was someone parked to eother side of her (also, apparently, illegally), and she assumed it was a spot. I think they should throw the ticket out. The markings were really not kept up and could barely be seen even without snow. I was just hoping the "gray car" angle would make the process easier.
They also said checked off Ny County AND Queens County
