Paris Hilton
As the clock ticks on Paris Hilton's remaining days of freedom, the heiress and her parents Rick and Kathy Hilton are working feverishly to try and get her 45-day jail sentence overturned so that she won't have to turn herself in come June 5th. In addition to petitions and pleas to the Governor for a pardon, the Hiltons are also hiring on the best attorneys that money can buy. Here are pictures of an unhappy-looking Paris and her equally unhappy-looking parents at her lawyer's office trying to figure out their next move:

For her part, Paris Hilton is trying to make sure that the public understands that she is very sorry for what she's done and does not feel that she is above the law. Here is the statement that Paris released thru her new attorney Richard Hutton:
"After reading the media's coverage of my court hearing, I feel the need to correct what I believe are misperceptions about me. I absolutely realize how serious driving under the influence is. I could not live with myself if anyone was injured or killed while I was driving while impaired. Clearly, no one should -- no matter how slightly. I am ready to face the consequences of violating probation. No one is above the law. I surely am not. I do not expect to be treated better than anyone else who violated probation. However, my hope is that I will not be treated worse."

I agree, mommy and daddy can't always bail you out.
If she walked past me on the street I would laugh so hard at her!

Re: Paris Hilton
I want her to go to jail, I really do but
at the same time- I think it is a little harsh- Lizzie Grubman only had to do to a treatment program for 90 days and she hurt 12 people!
probation for her first DUI- is also harsh- and I know a few people that have gotten them in NY- and where not put on probation- only lost their lic. for 3 months

But it's not only the DUI...she was also caught driving with a suspended license. And admitted she knew she was driving with a suspended license.

I doubt if I did that - I would go to jail for 45 days
driving with a suspended License is hardly a felony-
and she didn't admitt it- she admitting to not knowing her Lic was suspened

she drove with a suspended Lic while on probation for her DUI
she claims to not have known her Lic was suspended
I think a week in Jail is more then enough - she didn't hurt anyone- and I can't imagine that any other first time offender would get 45 days

This is what happened: She was stopped in Jan for driving on a suspened license b/c of the DUI. She was given a written warning by the cop not to drive again because of the suspened license which she signed. Than 1 month later she was pulled over again for driving without her lights on. That's when they found out again she was driving on a suspened license, after she signed the warning form. That's when they impounded her $119, 000 Bentley.

Re: Paris Hilton
As my DH pointed out....the new season of The Simple Life will be out soon.
As our little Paris has learned in the past, no publicity is bad publicity. Her now infamous sex tape was released just before the first season of her reality show came out. It certainly peaked the public's interest back then. Maybe she's banking on the same result this time around.
Although I'm not sure if the judicial system gives a hoot about publicity, I'm willing to bet that Paris's PR reps know just how long they want to keep her picture on the front page of the magazines.

her parents look pi$sed because any good lawyer probably wants no part of this!!
in addition to her driving problems, she also conveniently "forgot" to enroll in her mandatory rehab class .

People with money are c-o-n-n-e-c-t-e-d. I bet she doesn't do a single day. I'd be extremely surprised if she does. Her parents are no prizes either I bet. How did they raise this girl? To go to the GOVERNOR to get you pardoned for driving D-U freaking I????
If he lets her off, all my respect for Mr. Governator is out the window as well.

My friend had her car taken and got probation for a first offense DUI. She passed the drunk/coordination test, but blew just over the limit for the Breathalyzer. She was not driving recklessly, she was caught by a cop just sitting & waiting with his lights off in the bar parking lot. She had not even reached the roadway yet when he pulled her over.
So why the heck should Paris get multiple DUIs, sign off on a warning that she won't drive until her suspension is up, and then continue to drive KNOWING that with the paparazzi she will undoubtedly get caught? SHE CAN AFFORD TO HIRE A DRIVER... give me a break.

Re: Paris Hilton
Yuck. I think DUI/DWI is an extremely serious offense and should always come with a harsh sentence.
