Painting your front door

What paint did you use? What color? We'll be replacing our storm door in the next few weeks and I don't like the white door we have and want to change the color.

we have a steel door and had it painted cranberry at an autobody shop. Came out amazing. Then we painted the side door ourselves and you can really see the brush strokes. still looks ok but the professional one came out amazing!

Did you use a roller or a brush?

I never thought of an autobody shop. How long did it take?

Re: Painting your front door

i completely recommend the body shop approach - how much was it? I painted my door two weeks ago with a roller and black exterior paint. I have to put another coat on because it seems to have come out uneven (gloss) thinking i need to stir the can more.

Also better to take the door off to paint then keep it up - wish i did this but couldn't because we would have no door completely for hours which i wasn't a fan of.

I did mine. I painted it a burgundy, and used a BM Aura paint. It's a great paint. It took two coats and looks awesome. I used both a roller and brush. I also painted the inside an ivory color. Same paint same use of tools. Heres a pic for visual.

I painted my door and frame on the same day.

Make sure you tell your DH not to close the door bc our red door has a nice white frame painted around it.

The only problem is that you have to leave it at the autobody. It worked for us because we replaced a door so we had a door in there already. Im not sure how much it cost because my father in law is a Mechanic and had friends do it for us. It really looks awesome though, it looks like its made in cranberry metal, cant tell its painted AT ALL!!

We won't be able to do that so I'll have to do it myself.

Now I just have to pick a color.

Re: Painting your front door

We used Sherwin Williams - I believe aubergine was the color and it was the outdoor paint. We have an oak door and DH used a brush - looks awesome. DH loves SW (hates BM).
