painting while it's raining out?

Does anyone know if it is bad to paint when it is raining out? We were planning on painting the nursery tomorrow...but DH mentioned that some people told him that it is not good to paint when it is raining so much. That it will mess up the finish of the paint or it can bubble....is that true?

What do you think?

And if it makes a difference we are using no VOC paint and I wanted to crack open the windows a little if we can.

it will not ruin the finish or anything. Maybe and I say maybe will take longer to dry cause of the humidity in the air but paint away.

Agreed, it does take longer to dry. It wont mess anything up though. (a high humidity rainy day in the summer might be different, although we painted then and even that it wasn't bad) def. go for it. and if you have a basement dehumidifier you could hook it up in the room. the heat in your home helps enough though!

Re: painting while it's raining out?

you can completely paint while it's raining, it just takes longer to dry. So longer to wait in between coats. You could turn the heat up a little higher in the house and that should help you out. Don't know if you will be able to crack the windows open tomorrow with all the heavy rain, but if you can then it's fine. GL! Can't wait to see what the nursery looks like. Chat Icon

ok great! I am going to report this info back to DH and hope that he is willing to give it a shot! I just want to get things rolling already!! plus....painting sure beats going out in the rain to look at furniture (which was our back up plan).

Re: painting while it's raining out?

the only downside is because of the humidity it may take longer to dry. It will not destroy the paint or finish though!
