Painting Quotes-really high?

I just had a painter come over to quote me for a nursery. It's a standard size room-no skimcoating needed or special paints and he quoted me $550!!!! Is that insane or what? I also was thinking of fixing my DR walls since previous painter didn't skimcoat that wall and he charged me $900!! So a total of $1500 for two standard size rooms? Is it me or is this guy nuts??

That is steep IMO. We had a LOT of patch work done at our place and we had 2 large bedrooms painted, the hallway AND the stairs which had a very high ceiling and including paint wasn't much more than what you were quoted total.

I had a painter come in and give me a quote for my bedroom and it was about $550. I couldn't believe it. We ended up doing it ourselves.

I had a bunch of painters in to give us quotes on our bedroom, and the lowest price I got was $650 for one room. So $550 sounds pretty good. I dont think its worth it for them to come out and do just one room, so its probably going to be higher.

WOW that sounds $$$$ i am glad we painted ourselves as much as we did the not so greatest job but that i can't understand charging unless there is some prep on the walls involved.

there is def a difference when a pro does it but it is expensive!

maybe a little high...

we paid 4k for 1 bedroom, 2 baths, loft, dining room, entryway and foyer, kitchen and living room (with 20ft. ceilings)

no prime, minimal patching (just holes from things hanging before we painted).

It was $500 alone for our master with tray ceiling

I had a 2 story entry way, living room, dining room, kitchen, hallway and bathroom painted in April and we paid $2,200.

I think $550 sounds really high for just one room, but maybe it's more because it's just one room?

I was very happy with my painter. He's from Massapequa - FM if you're interested and I can give you his name/number.

I would get at least 3 quotes.

My DH was a painting contractor and that sounds about right, even a little low to be honest.

I don't know... we had our entire house done, every single room and hallyway, and it was $3200 which included power-washing the siding and the PVC fence.

But obviously they are going to charge less per room if they are doing the whole house.
