Painting Furniture
I had an unfinished dresser that I stained this weekend. Totally not what I was expecting so I was wondering if I could paint over the stain? TIA

you will probably have to sand it down first to remove the stain... otherwise the paint wont stick right and will start to peel...

Re: Painting Furniture
i think if it's just stained but not finished (polyurethane) then you can paint without sanding as long as the stain is COMPLETELY dry. you don't want it to bleed. you'll definitely need 2 coats. we painted (white) an armoire that was stained but not finished. the first coat was streaky, but by the time the second one was dry, it looked great. no trouble with the paint coming up.

Re: Painting Furniture
that is what happened when we did our first bathroom cabinet. we stained but were not happy with the results.
we ended up lightly sanding again and then painting...

Re: Painting Furniture
Lightly sand, then you should be fine to paint! We painted a dining room set and have had no problems!
