PAinting Finished Furniture

DH has an old nightstand that was stained with a shiny finish - I want to paint it white. Can I just paint over it or do I need to strip it?

TIA!

I think you need to sand it down. I think.

Re: PAinting Finished Furniture

sand it it makes the paint stick on it for longer if you sand it down really good then its better.

i am painting kitchen cabinets and didn't do the best sanding job and its taking a hell of a lot longer.

Lightly sand, oil based primer on wood, then paint. This is what we were told to do to paint our kitchen cabinets, the right primer makes a big different...too bad we found that out after it was done...
