Has anyone painted built in book cases anything except white?

In our old house we painted the insides of the bookselves the same color of the walls and the trim was white. Let me find a pic.

The house we are buying, the built ins are stained dark brown. I plan on painting them a tan a few shades lighter than I am painting the walls, so that they pop.

I built one set of bookcases, and stained them a honey oak color. For our library, I'm building all of the bookcases, and leaving the backs mostly open, so they are the wall color. The rest of the bookcase is white, though.

My dh built bookcases around our fireplace in our old house and we did bead board in the back that we painted a light green and then painted the rest white. Our walls were a cream color.
