Pageant Question-read before you respond pleas

I don't want anyone thinking I am talking about Toddlers and Tiaras hereChat Icon

My town is pretty small and has an annual 4th of July event-it's 3 days long with a parade and a carnival/fair, fireworks-the works.

Part of the event is a little miss fire cracker type of pageant. They do winners by age group and the winners are on the float during the parade.

There is no makeup, no false teeth, hair or eyelashes. Just a party dress and something red, white, and blue.

We are trying to get involved with our community-and someone suggested that we sign Claire up.

I'm on the fence. I'm not a fan of pageants but this is a cute little town thing and it would give us an opportunity to get involved with the community and Claire would probably have fun-she loves dressing up. However, I know we can get involved in other ways so it's not a big deal to skip it. And, there is the possibility that she would not want to do it (I would never make her do it or try to bribe her, if on the day of she doesn't want to walk on the stage then no big deal).
We wouldn't ever do any other pageants-they are just not my thing.

What do you think-am I crazy for even entertaining this suggestion?

Is it cute or just wrong?

I think it's fine. If it were me (with my 6 year old), I wouldn't want to set up an expectation of her marching & then have her not, so I'm not sure how to handle that aspect of it - but I see nothing wrong with it.

Heck..if my town had a fireworks parade for adults I would do it..LOL.

something like this i think is cute and fun. and if she doesnt want to do it, you havent invested anything or lost out on anything and she's not traumatized.

I would try it and see how she reacts.

Re: Pagaent Question-read before you respond pleas

Chat Iconunless everybody won, I don't think I could hang.

I know all about these 4th of July Events. I choose to stay home rather then go to NY because I enjoy it down here so much. We go to our Waxhaw parade, grill out, then beach party, then our fireworks.
I have a kid that I drag to karate-the only reason he particpates is the promise of marching in the parade.

I think it is wonderful to get involved and see nothing wrong with her putting on a pretty dress and strutting around smiling.

I don't have a thick skin appearance wise at all. i could not handle the rollercoaster of Jessie being told someone was prettier then her.

See-and that's kind of my thing. But, the person I was talkig to said it usually comes down to who has the most patriotic outfit, but still....

Thank you all for your feedback-glad to know I'm not crazy for thinking about it. I have some time to make a decisionChat Icon
