OWS Spinoff--how would you solve the problem(s)?
Whether you are for or against OWS, whether you are for or against some form of universal health care, if you see the need for change, what would be your suggestion as to how to fix things? Many people believe there are problems, and have identified specific problems, but don't have a solution that has any chance of actually pleasing enough people to get made into law. The more detail for your solution, the better. PLease don't just say raise taxes... For example--Raise taxes for who--only the 1%? Based solely on income for the current year? Should it vary by state? What about people who hide income? What about people who have fairly high salaries, but also relatively high needs (not wants...needs) for their families. Would you give any benefits to the people whose taxes you are raising? And what would you do with the extra money from taxes? WOuld you cut spending elsewhere?
Or, do you think things are just fine the way they are, and would suggest keeping the status quo?

Those on TANF/welfare long term should be required to donate time if they are unable to find work. The welfare system if fine for a temporary stop gap when you need it, but it shouldn't be a lifestyle. Volunteering doing work in the community (community coops for gardening/farming, working in the school systems, cleaning up and beautifying neighborhoods and park of blight... volunteering in food banks and soup kitchens, administrative tasks in schools and social agencies................). Many skills can be learned this way that won't cost US taxpayers a dime in reeducation and it will provide a work history for the recipient, and a sense of pride in their neighborhood.
Remove corporate tax breaks and make them ineligible for refunds. Use the proceeds to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure (roads, bridges, schools etc)
Reward companies who bring back jobs previously outsourced to the US by giving them short term tax discounts
Ban corporate lobbying.
Impose congressional term limits and impose a code of ethics that separates them from corporate america (actually, impose this same code of ethics to the FDA, FCC, FTC etc)
Remove tax loopholes which allow the richest 1% to not pay taxes on certain incomes.
Impose a national healthcare system which would provide essential care to all Americans.
Impose harsher penalties on employers caught using illegal labor or paying people off the books in order to skirt payroll taxes, worker's comp insurance etc. And this includes homeowners who hire day laborers. If there are no jobs to be had there is less incentive to come.
