Our ped does not accept our new health insurance
DH recently switched our health insurance and I just realized that our pediatrician does not accept our new health insurance.
DH thinks we should just switch our pediatrician. I love our pediatrician!
Would you switch your pediatrician or wait to change your health insurance?

I would never pick a dr out of network unless it was a specialist I had to see. They are great Drs that accept all different insurance.

DH seems to think that it doesn't matter who the ped is. The kids and I love our pediatrician though.
DH is also a physician so we don't go on many sick visits, usually just the annual physical.

This.
It most definitely matters who your ped is, but you can find another great one you love who takes your insurance.

I would not even consider staying. I love our pediatrician, but I would never pay out of pocket for to see them. There are plenty of good doctors out there.

Personally, if you are changing your insurance during typically rollover in Jan, I'd keep the ped. Your kids are older & probably will not need much.

Bottom line, is that it's a financial decision. First off I'd talk to the pediatrician and the office manager and see how much the visits will cost your out of network. Then decide if you can swing it financially. If you can't then switch.

Re: Our ped does not accept our new health insurance
The only way I'd stick with the ped and try to get on different insurance is if there's a specific need for the children that this doctor in particular has been very caring and vigilant of. If I feared that other doctor's wouldn't be as understanding and GOOD as my other then it wouldn't be an option to switch. But in normal cases where children simply go for physicals and everything's pretty routine and by the book then I think you'd easily find another ped that you like. In that case it's definitely worth switching!

Re: Our ped does not accept our new health insurance
I would switch if it were me. My ped is OK, nothing special but we go to them because they are so close. If they stopped taking my insurance i'm sure i could find another ped i'd be happy with.

I wouldn't pay out of pocket to see an out of network pediatrician. There are plenty of great, high-quality pediatricians and I'm sure many of them will be covered under your new insurance. The only way I'd pay OOP for an out of network doctor is if they were super specialized with a specific disease/issue/condition either I or a family member had.
