Our first big party!
We moved into our house at the beginning of the summer. We have had some smaller BBQs (no more than 25 people). We are having both our families over for a Labor Day party and we're looking at about 70 people
So far this is what people have offered to bring: -tomato salad -cucumber salad -aspargus salad -dip -coleslaw -chicken cesar salad -german sauerkraut -ribs -sausage and peppers -chicken francaise -crab cakes -cookies and cake
We are buying/making: -hamburgers -hotdogs -buns -baked ziti -cornbread
How is everything looking so far? What else do we need? It's so hard because some people ask "What can I make"? and other people say they are bringing something. I never know how to respond to the what can I make question!
What else can I do now as far as food planning? Help me!!!!

Re: Our first big party!
I think you are good! Just have all your dinnerware ready like paper plates, forks, spoons, knifes, paper cups, coffee cups, napkins, condiments for the hot dogs/burgers, you can put your soda/water in the cooler and on that day pour the ice over it. disposable table clothe, Also, I would add some fruit when your serving dessert like watermelon, cantelopes, grapes etc.. Have lots of garbage bags ready, recycle bin ready!
Have fun!

I think you're right on target but you should provide some sort of a dessert as well. I see a guest is bringing something but as a host, even with people bringing stuff I would want to ensure I contribute to each part of the meal.

Re: Our first big party!
Oh sorry I forgot to mention- I will definitely have many desserts! I love baking so I'm still deciding what I want to make.

Re: Our first big party!
See if the person bringing asparagus salad wants to share his/her recipe!
Sounds like it will be a nice day.

Re: Our first big party!
Sounds like a great list! I never know what to tell people to bring if they offer, but I tend to ask for salads, or a fruit salad or if you love something they make that is easy, ask for that. At previous parties my friends who have a busy schedule but still want to bring something have brought veggie trays,or some chips and dip or salsa, so I could cross some things off my shopping list. In my experience when people aren't sure what to bring you receive lots of dessert and alcohol, which can also be a good thing for a party.
Also, make sure to start asking family members or friends to borrow their extra tables and chairs!
