Our dogs
I see so many chat avatars with dogs. I feel like he was my first baby!!! Does anyone else worry about doggy jealousy. I feel bad like I am going to be taking something away from him. I call him "mommy's baby". My DH thinks I am crazy

We've very worried about that too. He lays on the couch with us, sleeps in bed with us and is generally the center of our universe.
It's going to be an adjustment.

Re: Our dogs
I have a yorkie who is soooooooo spoiled! She sleeps with us at night, never leaves my side and is constantly attached to me. DH has already trained her to not go in the babys room but I feel bad for her...... i am too much of a softie.I know once the baby comes I am in for it. I honestly think...she thinks I am her birth mother .... Besides, I am sure she senses something already!

Re: Our dogs
I worry. I've been trying to read up on how to introduce our dog to the baby in the best way and I hope that helps.

Re: Our dogs
I have two Yorkies who are both the center of my world as well. We're not TTC yet, but I've heard that playing tapes with baby sounds on them (crying, cooing, etc) helps to ease them into the new arrival. Also, when you're in the hospital, I've heard that bringing the receiving blanket home and letting the dogs lie with it helps the adjustment as well.
I'm sure everything will work out just fine!!!

Re: Our dogs
I was really worried for a while about how our husky would react, but now that I'll be having the baby anyday, I feel much more comfortable- seems strange, I know. We got the nursery ready over the summer and we've allowed Tasha to go in there whenever she wants. She just goes and sniffs around and doesn't really bother with anything. I think it's going to be a big adjustment- she's been the baby for 8 years- but I think she'll be ok with it.

Re: Our dogs
I am worried about the dog having jealousy issures, as well as overprotective issues (she is VERY protective of her family!). I had my shower two weeks ago, and she thinks that all of the baby toys are for her! She can't figure out why she can't play with them

Just an fyi, my parents had a husky before I was born. Nicky was so gentle with my sister and I....they are definitely great family dogs.....I miss my Nicky

i could have wrote this word for word!!! it actually worries me a lot - DH and i made a deal that we are going to try our absolute hardest to keep things the same way with dog. i know it is going to be hard but its so true that he is treated like our first baby!!!

Re: Our dogs
I'm not so worried about jealousy issues, the only thing I'm worrying about is my Frenchie's hyperness (sometimes) and wanting to "play". DH usually wrestles with him and I'm worried that having a baby in the house, well, he might think it wants to "play" and be too rough!
But I've heard really good things about dogs suddenly taking on a very protective role over a new baby and becomig very gentle, almost like they know.
