Organic Mom's with picky eaters
Help me DS is 16 months and decided he doesn't want to eat anything anymore. I have tried chicken, steak, meatballs and he spits them out. To make matters worse I buy grass fed and its $$ and he wastes it all. I am getting so frustrated. All he wants is bread and cheese. He is already a peanut only landing in the 5th percentile for height and weight so It's making me more upset. Did anyone have a picky eater and found something they loved as much as grilled cheese

Organic Mom's with picky eaters
Up until a week ago he would eat ANYTHING. I used to make him pasta with meat sauce, meatballs, mac and cheese, chicken cutlets. Now, he puts it in his mouth and then takes it out and throw's it. My Mother fed him American cheese and apparently he will eat that until he pukes...Go figure, I need to find something real to feed him.

What about roasted veggies or chickpeas with some flavorful seasoning? Some kids like the crunchy consistency. Have you tried purees? Adding veggies to his grilled cheese and putting on sprouted grain bread for more nutritional value? It might also be good to make foods that hide healthy ingredients like these recipe: http://thischickcooks.net/2012/06/01/chocolate-avocado-pudding-for-non-avocado-and-avocado-lovers/ http://blog.easyeats.com/?p=4052 http://cleaneatingchelsey.com/2012/03/15/chia-seed-greek-yogurt-pancakes/

Organic Mom's with picky eaters
My girls will eat anything but when they go on a binge of something it's usually cheese so I do mac n cheese and put stuff in there like chicken, or broccoli. I find they like to taste whatever I am eating so I eat first and let them have bits of whatever I am eating. I wouldn't go out of my way to cook them a grass fed steak but I would make enough that I could offer it to them several time in tiny bites even if that is just an inch of steak cut into tiny bits. It will keep in the fridge for several days.
Also, I still supplement a lot with the organic pouch foods in every flavor when they were only asking for specific things. And I have also made them smoothies with all sorts of good stuff like fruits/berries, spinach, juice mixed with organic yogurt and milk etc.

Re: Organic Mom's with picky eaters
Dd1 went through a long phase. Cheese, yogurt and chicken. That was it. So I just got creative. With grilled cheese, purée or squash up some califlour. I add this to her Mac n cheese all the time. I would keep introducing we foods along with foods I know she would eat,so I wouldn't have to make something else. Avocado, high in good fats she loved! I Made sandwiches for her with it, to get her to eat bread....

Re: Organic Mom's with picky eaters
Annie's Mac and cheese has become a staple. She also likes salty stuff so I have tested to Applegate Farms organic dogs, cheeses. and sliced deli meats. Also the things she can feed herself with her fingers help like cut up fruits and veggies. I still give her the pouches too to supplement. So frustrating when they go from eating anything to being so picky. I just keep offering and offering. And don't get me started on the wasting of foods! O h and eggs she likes eggs.

I try not to give it to DD too often because even though it's organic, it's processed, but she loves the organic spinach tortellini they sell at BJs (it comes in a two-pack). I mix it with the trader jow's organic marinara and some grated cheese.

Organic Mom's with picky eaters
hang in there, my son went through the exact same thing for about a month and then he went back to being a pretty good eater. i threw out a lot of wasted $$$ food but i just kept at it, every meal i would offer him a few choices of foods. i tried sneaking veggies and meat into other foods i knew he would eat, like pasta and home made mac n cheese. sometimes it worked and sometimes not.

Re: Organic Mom's with picky eaters
Stop feeding him meat. It sounds like he doesn't like meat or the texture of it. Try other proteins like eggs, beans, ect.

Organic Mom's with picky eaters
my 22 month old ate everything and then went through a small phase of rejecting some foods and it happened around the same time as your ds. i happen to think his molars were coming in and caused senstivity in the area.
my only advice is to give soft foods. I would also stress not to fall into the trap where you prepare a meal and he rejects it and you give end up giving him what you know he will eat. i feel like this is how the picky eater is formed. i am very much into wholesome fresh food and i make everything homemade. i just kept trying different food and if he rejected the food i gave him, i left it on the table. made try pasta with lentils and carrots? very rich in protein. good luck! i know it can be frustrating!

Re: Organic Mom's with picky eaters
hes always been a peanut? why so worried? its just his size. the more you stress harder it will be
1. cut out snacks 2. serve him 2-3 bites at a time so it doesnt get wasted 3. dont cook special meals for him, eat together 4. offer fruit for dessert, even if nothing is eaten 5. its okay to go to bed hungry, its even healthy on occassion, hell wake up hungry
he wakes up hungry if he hasnt eated day before, for breakfast I make veggie muffins, see weelicios.com for great healthy recipes. add chia and flax to muffins for nutrition boost.
