Opinions about Baby Einstein DVDS
My DD is 3 months now and i got a stack of Baby Einstein DVDs for cheap online. What are your honest opinions about them and about babies that young watching TV? I have her watching them sometimes but not sure if its harmful for her to watch tv so young or it doesn't really matter. She does seem to enjoy them.

Dd watched them from that age. It would distract her from her constant colic screaming for a little bit. She is 5 now and fine. Very smart actually. I can't imagine how a baby Eisenstein dvd can do any harm.

DD also watched them. But I'm not from the restricting TV to children camp.

At that age they are just watching the colors and shapes and movement on the screen and listening to the music. Much like when they watch their mobiles or other toys with colors, sounds and motion.

Again, I'm not against TV, but at that age they learn so much more from dialogue, interaction, and sensory play.
If it's necessary to have her watch so you can shower, make dinner, do some quick chores I'd say it's fine. But I wouldn't put her in front of the tv at that age just for the heck of it.

Wasn't there a big lawsuit recently saying it does nothing for the kids?
At 3 kids, I keep an open mind cc buying yourself some time of it entertains them!

Honestly, I think there is no need to put a TV on for a 3 month old. No matter how educational a show is, it is more beneficial to turn it off and do anything else with your child. It's really not good for their brain development and if you start now it will probably make it harder to limit screen time in the future. Just my opinion though!! My daughter is almost 3 and watches very very little TV (and had no screen time at all until she was 2)

Just ask the pediatrician. I don't remember the age, but mine told me to avoid any tv/iPad etc. until __ months. It has to do with brain synapses and overload that can cause adhd

I use to put it on my DS. He watched for maybe 5-10 minutes max. I believe everything in moderation. The AAP actually just modified (loosened) their stance on TV time. I read an actual recently but don't remember the takeaways.

How are the dvds? I think I saw some clips on youtube and they are nothing like what I expected.
I thought it would be learning videos like: This is your eyes...this is your hands... this is a dog...this is an apple...etc...
but from the clips I saw its a combination of cartoon and real kids just sitting around with some music in the background.
Is that all it is?
Right now, DD watches "nursery rhymes" on youtube

The ones ive seen are meant for babies (infants) -- they are not identifying objects etc, they play classical music and show them eye catching things -- like a mobile, or something colorful, toys that move, etc. These are not meant to teach your child, but to engage them.

Gotcha. I thought with the name "Einstein" it would be a teaching dvd.

They have ones for older children that are more teaching. The ones for infants are just music and colors, movement etc

I am not a fan of the baby Einstein dvd's- I had a few that were given to dd and dh and I agreed not to use them. I did not think of using them until dd was much older than 3 months. The AAP suggests restricting TV in very young children and dd pediatrician provided good reasons in favor of limiting TV so we did.

DD has watched them since about 1 and loves them. She is now 2.5 and has an amazing vocab. She will still ask to watch them occasionally.

The TV is always on is my house. ALWAYS. My DS is 4 smart well adjusted kid.
To each their own. Don't worry about what others do and if you want to use them go ahead. In not no big deal.
