Opinionated parents
Now that you're expecting, has anyone else found that your parents are extremely opinionated about every decision that you make re: pregnancy??? It's SOOO annoying!!!!

Yup. Specifically my mom and MIL about things like how I refuse to put a thick jacket/coat on her and will be using a bundle me cover and blanket instead, about babywearing, about my plans to RF until at least 2, about the possibility of nursing in public, etc.

All the stuff that wasn't heard of or wasn't the norm in their generation. We've run into that too with our parents. Hard for them to accept that their ways weren't necessarily the best ways and that lots more research has been done since and there is so much new knowledge now. Of course, 30 years from now things will be totally different from now and we'll be the ones telling our children they're doing it wrong!

Re: Opinionated parents
My mom and MIL aren't so much opinionated as they are worriers. There was one night i needed to drive from Nassau to Suffolk and it was snowing and my MIL got really nervous and upset. My mom calls me every day to make sure I made it home from work, that kind of stuff.

Re: Opinionated parents
you have to learn to tune it out. Listen, take the advice you want (some of it is good) and tune out the cr*p.
The advice will never end. So get used to it.

I agree. And if you don't learn now to speak up.
Get thick skin because it will get worse unless you learn to speak up or turn out. And that means everyone not just parents.

Re: Opinionated parents
I was shocked that my parents and his parents have been amazing -- probably b/c they don't want to hear the wrath from my extra-hormonal self.
What I find extremely obnoxious is unsolicited advice from other mommys to be (FTM like me) or recent moms. I hear opinions about: -- why I'm having a c-section voluntarily -- why I'm not breast-feeding
My mom has been amazing - didn't say a peep to about anything!

Re: Opinionated parents
I have a 21mo DD and another due in April. My mom may mention options in order to help but if I already have a system I use she accepts it. My MIL has piped up a few times about different things but once I explain how I handle it she backs off. I don't have friends who butt in but I will admit that I do offer advice to my close friends who are expecting their first. I also preface by saying "all babies are different so feel free to ignore me" but I get excited to share what helped me. They know me well though and I'm never upset if they don't listen.
