One more upsetting factor about being in NC and having a baby...
Since our family is mostly in NY, when we're in the hospital, we're like the only room that doesn't have any visitors, flowers, balloons, etc. Even after just having a baby and having my DH and my boys it's still kind of lonely. You wish you kind of had that excitement from everyone and had all these people to visit you to share the experience. But no, not us. Don't get me wrong, the quiet time is great, but at the same time, it's lonely and you get jealous at all the other mommies sharing their new baby.

I'll come visit you!!!!!
We're in the same situation -- my whole family is in NY too. DH's family is in Greensboro, but his mom's on chemo and can't travel often. SIL has two young kids but she said she's going to try to be here as long as I give birth while she's off from school... lol... as if I can control that.
I've actually thought about this a few times and wonder what's going to happen. We have some friends around here -- mostly DH's work friends. I hope they'll come to visit. But the bottom line is that the hospital room will be filled with so much love even if it's just your immediate family! I've heard people say they wish they had more time to themselves and to share the newborn with their other children without all the visitors, so you will get that side of it!
Sorry you're feeling down... I'm sure you'll come up with a lot of great things about being here (especially when it's 50 degrees this winter here and there's a blizzard in NY...)

There is (kind of) a bright side though: you'll have a chance to have some peace and quiet after the birth. I know my entire family is going to descend on the hospital, and while I'm grateful to have them, I'm probably going to want to get some sleep instead of play hostess.

Don't feel bad!! Everybody loves you & your baby just as much. Besides, sometimes it's nice to relax without all those people popping in. I doubt I'll have any visitors besides DH & my family lives 10 mins from the hospital.

Re: One more upsetting factor about being in NC and having a baby...
I totally understand. We don't have any family in NY. I had a few visitors when DD was born but they were all my DH's work friends. Between them and talking to our families on the phone, it kept me busy enough.
I do hear the fanfare that my family makes when my siblings and relatives have kids though and I do wish I could be part of that and have the same done for me.

I know EXACTLY how you feel. My entire family lives in NY and Florida, so no one that I'm close to came to the hospital to visit me and the baby. DH's Mom is here and some of his family, but no one really came to the hospital to visit except for his Mom and sister (who I'm not all that close to).
It does get lonely.

Do you have any friends in NC? Maybe they will come visit you. Someone may surprise you!
