one month old schedule

when does your 1 month old start waking up more during the day?

i'm waking her every 4 hours to eat (4-6oz). in the morning she's usually up for an hour ...otherwise she sleeps all day. i dont wake her at night but she wakes every 3-4 hours.

she was also 2.5 weeks early if that matters. i'm just trying to figure out if she should be sleeping this much during the day. not that i'm complaining

It's been too long since I had a one month old, but I never woke either for a bottle. They just let me know when they were hungry. I remember DS1 was like clockwork every 4 hours. He'd wake up and show signs he was hungry and it was funny it happened to be on the hour... fist in the mouth and reach for anything to suck on. LOL!
DS2 was a hungry monster and grew faster and ate more than DS1. Still shows now. LOL!
She'll get on schedule on her own. For now enjoy it while she sleeps. She's growing and her body just needs rest, love and food.

my ped told me during the day to wake her every 2-3 hours I thought 2 hours was too short plus both my kids ended up in NICU (for a week or less) and they were on a 3 hour schedule there so I kept it.

so what I did was wake every 3 hours to feed them and try to keep them awake the whole time during the day and at night I would let them sleep as long as possible at the beginning I would make the last bottle somewhere between 10 and 11 and as the weeks/months I pushed it back.

by 8 weeks both of my DC were sleeping from 10/11 -6/7 and slowly the bedtime got earlier. and slowly I moved feedings to every 4 hours during the day.

Oh I woke that kid

I fed him like clock-work every 2 1/2 - 3 hours during the day in the beginning. He was ALWAYS hungry and ALWAYS took the bottle.

So, in the beginning he would get up in the morning about 7/8am and I would change his diaper and feed him, burp. A lot of times in the very beginning he would just go right to sleep after that. Maybe a little up time in the morning on his play mat or me holding him or in his swing but then back to sleep. Then, about 2 1/2 - 3 hours later I would take him in, change his diaper, that would wake him up, and I would feed him again. He always ate.

And so yeah, in the beginning I offered him the bottle (formula fed) every 3 hours, at the most but between 2 1/2 - 3 hours and he always took it. And I would let him have about 1.5 - 2 oz in the very beginning before demanding a burp. And as long as he was taking it, and burping, I gave him. And I burped religiously because otherwise he would spit up a bit. He was good about spitting up though as long as I kept him burped.

Anyway, this is how my mom did it when she raised us - three kids - and we ALL slept through the night. Because we were full and had enough during the day to sustain us throughout the night. And my son has slept through the night since literally day one. I remember my mom even in the hospital telling me - feed that kid all day! Let him sleep, but then change his diaper, wake him a bit and offer that bottle. If he's not hungry he won't take it but he always did.

And when I was a baby my mom did that, I was the last so she was a pro, and the doc said to her at the time - make sure you wake her during the night if she is STTN to feed her. My mom was like to helllll with that, I've got two other kids - if she is STTN then God bless us all!

I was clearly getting more than enough during the day lol I never starved and always slept great at night. So, my advice to you is do the same. Worked for my mom and me.

ETA - From the beginning DS slept from around 7pm - 7/8am each night. He's 19 months now and still does the same.

I should add I do recall now that he would once in a while wake briefly ONCE during the night sometimes still hungry - but my son was really a bottomless pit. So, what I did was since he went to bed "for the night" around 7/8pm I would do a "dream feed" right before I went to bed, which was later. This was short-lived and only in the very very very beginning because that young he needed it. But I do now recall doing that but that was it, at the most, and he STTN and it was never a problem and I believe that was truly because I stuffed him during the day.

I breastfed so I would wake to nurse but once we switched to formula I would let my dd sleep.

At that age I never worried about a schedule. He didn't sleep much cause he was colic but I fed every 3-4 hrs unless the stars aligned and he was actually sleeping. I just went by his cues.

one month old schedule

My son had trouble gaining weight at first, but once he started gaining weight we stopped waking him. But he would almost always want to eat every 2 hours during the day. At night he would sleep a little longer.

I woke both boys up during the day to eat every 3-4 hrs but, not at night.

They both started sleeping long stretches at night pretty early on (but, then we had other sleep issues with DS 1)... I wanted to get them used to being up in the day and not at night.

I only woke DD in the middle of the night to eat bc her ped was concerned about her lack of weight gain. DD was a sleeper from the get go. I never woke her up during the day. We also didn't adhere to a schedule.

ETA: we stopped waking her at night to eat at around 5-6 weeks.

I wouldn't wake her if it's just once in a while but if it's every feeding I probably would. I'm sure in the next few weeks she'll start to have more awake time. My older one slept nonstop as a newborn making it impossible to feed her and it wasn't good for her weight gain. My little one was a month early and she stuck to her nicu schedule (every 3 hours) for about 6 weeks. After that she started changing things up and I followed her lead. Sometimes she nurses every 2 hours, sometimes sshe goes 3 or 4 hours or longer. It's still pretty much that way now at almost 5 months.

Our pediatrician said to wake every 3-4 hrs to feed, both day and night. Everyone said to never wake a sleeping baby, but I was so nervous as a first time mom, I followed the dr. After she regained her birth weight and she was 3 weeks old, I didn't wake her for a night feeding and she gave us 6 hrs!! It was a hallelujah moment. This time around, I will still wake during the day to feed but not at night.

i think it was around 4-5 weeks. at 6 weeks he WONT SLEEP AT ALL during the day... UGH.

he was also almost 2 weeks late, we like to think he's 2 weeks ahead of things LOL
