One day in Chicago
I am meeting a friend from Russia in Chicago next weekend; we'll share her hotel room while she's here on business. I am so excited!
I've never been and I'll have time to explore on my own Saturday afternoon before she arrives in the evening.
We'll have Sunday together and we'll probably spend most of it catching up, eating and shopping, so I want to squeeze in some touristy stuff on Saturday. No museums, though - I feel like doing more outdoor exploring, seeing different neighborhoods, etc.
Recommendations for one day there? Maybe a great deep dish pizza place? Also, I should just take the subway to the hotel right? We are at the Langham.
Thanks!

One day in Chicago
I love the architectural boat tour - if its still operating (seasonal) I would do that (I think its about 1 1/2 - 2 hours). And for some reason, I am also fascinated by "The Bean", so I would go check that out, along with Millenial and Grant Parks (they are right there, by the Bean). You could also go to Willis Tower

Re: One day in Chicago
last poster had some great recommendations. the architectural boat tour given by chicago line cruises was excellent. free starbucks coffee and cookies.
i would also suggest visiting the willis tower. there is a glass ledge/balcony which allows you to take awesome pics.
you could also have a drink at the signature room on the 95th floor of the john hancock tower. it has amazing views of the city.
have fun!

Thanks!! I am looking into all of these. The Signature room sounds like a great idea - at least I get a drink for my $18!

Re: One day in Chicago
Thanks all!
I had some deep dish pizza at a place people raved about online called Lou Malnati's - eh, it was okay but I like ours here better.
The Signature Room was fabulous! The Bean was ugly but Millenium Park was nice otherwise.
We enjoyed just walking around by the river, Michigan Ave. and the Loop.
Before my friend got there I did a self guided architectural walking tour which was very interesting.
It's like a smaller, cleaner NY. We had fun.
