One and a half hours and NO PICTURE...
This morning I fed Gracie, washed her up, did her hair, dressed her up in her Christmas dress, made sure she was in a good mood. Then I took out the camera. I tried having her sit on a chair, then on a chair with her Elmo doll, then sitting on anything, then I strapped her in to her high chair, then I tried to have her play with some decorations and all I ended up with is 30 horrible pictures and a toddler with a meltdown.
Money is a little tight for us this year (due to my medical bills) so Kiddie Kandids, Glamour Shots, and the like are out of the question. Plus, I figured, why pay big bucks when I could take the pics myself? Well I guess everyone will get a card without a picture this year. I am so upset.
What I am doing wrong? BTDT moms, How did you take a picture of your 19 month old? Gracie does not sit still unless we are reading a book or she is eating. Any advice would be appreciated. TIA.

I think that like the rest of us, you are trying too hard....keep her calm and if she likes reading then give her a Christmas book and let her read. Queitly take out the camera and don't make a big fuss! They can sense the anxiety and pressure and just crack!

Def employ the help of DH if you can to distract her and make her smile like he's playing with her behind the camera. THat's the only way i can get pics of my 19 month old smiling and sitting still-her daddy needs to be silly.
Good luck its so hard to get them to sit still at home.

I agree.
Try giving her a Christmas book to read and don't stress about the perfect smile or look.
Then be REALLY quick with the camera!!
I spent the weekend trying to get pics of my 7 year old nephew, 3 year old nephew and 6 month old son together.
And the best pic wasn't the one where they were all looking at the camera and smiling, it was where they were looking at each other an goofing around and laughing.
Capture whatever moment you can and don't beat yourself up.

could you just take some pictures in xmas pjs, maybe her being in comfy cloths will make it easier for her to take pictures you like.

GREAT Idea, thanks! I am stressing b/c I want to have the cards made up ASAP. BUT, the more I think about it, the more I realize...SO WHAT if my cards arrive on Dec. 23, 24 or 26th. Right? You would think that 19 months into the mommy thing I would have let go of the control issues that I have. I mean, pre-baby my Christmas cards were out right after Thanksgiving, my decorations and tree were up, everything was done and looked pretty. Now, I have not one decoration up, we are getting the tree Sunday, and no picture for a card to be made up. I have to laugh or I will cry.

Exactly!!! If you laugh about it gracie will laugh too I always keep my photo cards up wayyyyyy past christmas and after i take the tree down anyways, i love getting pictures!
I know what you mean though with being so organized pre baby. My control freak ways where everything has its place were paused when I let Gianna decorate the bottom of my tree and i didn't even redo it when she was done..yes everything is in one spot, but i love it

Re: One and a half hours and NO PICTURE...
Dont go for one of the posed type of pics..put her in her dress, grab the camera, and follow her around the house..Some nice shots to try for while playing:
Get her to look out the window. Play with some kid friendly ornaments. Have her put things in a stocking. Blowing out a candle???Light a Xmas one.

Re: One and a half hours and NO PICTURE...
You could always take a picture of her napping in some Christmas jammies If you have a tripod for your camera, it'll work just fine (FM if you need help).
And don't stress about not getting a picture yet. There are places that will print cards overnight
