Once they are on the move...

Do you need to vacuume and mop like 2 x per day?? I put down an old comfortor for us to lay on in the living room to play. I can't imagine having them crawl in the high traffic area where people walk in. Ew. Or is this just something I'll get used to and I'm being paranoid? Chat Icon

Re: Once they are on the move...

I am wondering the same thing. Right now we take off our shoes and also have guests take shoes off too -->which can be awkward but it helps keep a clean house.

When we first had DD, we put a sign on the door that said "We'd appreciate it if you could wash your hands and remove your shoes." We had a bunch of visitors and no one complained. Once DD starts crawling I am going to put a note up that says please remove your shoes we have a crawling baby. I have seen my niece pick up and eat little rocks, specks of dirt etc….so I know keeping shoes off is important!

Anyway - I am sure I will be mopping and vacuuming the main areas more often too. Once she starts eating snacks and stuff (puffs) there will be crumbs everywhere!

I don't. We don't even remove our shoes. DS never really crawled went straight to walking and there will always be dirt no matter how hard you try. DS is also in daycare so I figure he picks up germs all over the place so I just do my normal routine unless its extra dirty.

Re: Once they are on the move...

we do clean more!!! they have full run of our living room. In a way it is now a play room, but it was our only option with 2 of them. They NEVER have full freedom to go where they want to, but then again there is usually only 1 adult home with them.

You do get more relaxed about what goes in their mouths, cleanliness etc. Someone explained it to me as having the second kid. When you have your first you are neurotic about everything. When you have your second, the rules change. When you have twins, by 12 months it is like having your 2nd in terms of what bothers you about stuff like that. Only a few moths ago I washed everything that hit the floor in the kitchen that was tossed out out of their playpens. now not so much, there are better things to use my time on.

We do. On the weekdays, when DD started crawling, nanny would sweep and mop the floor. Now that she is walking, we sweep every morning, and mop most of the mornings. We are shoe free household as well.

We have a dog and a cat so I always feel like my floors are extra gross. I think I'm gonna try to vacuum and mop at least once a day once DD starts crawling.

Re: Once they are on the move...

I got a bit more relaxed about it. My DD crawled for almost 6 months before she walked, so, while I was vigilant at first, it became difficult to keep up, esp since I'm a FTWM. We just watched her closely and kept her contained in the cleaner areas (she wasn't given free reign of the entryway, kitchen, bathroom for example).

we didn't clean any extra when he started to crawl - i just kept an eye out for any random specs of stuff and would grab it if he started to make a beeline for it.

we're not a no shoes household either, so i'm sure there was stuff on the floors, but we're not really paranoid about that kind of stuff so it didn't bother either of us
