OMG maternity leave
I am really upset right now, because I have not been at my job for a year I am not eligable for FMLA which would give me 12 weeks off, well I do get 6 weeks off paid and can request to use vacation time and unpaid leave time....So I requested to use 2 weeks vacation and two weeks unpaid which would bring my total time off to 10 weeks !!!!!!!!! Well I submit my request to my manager to give to the head of the dept and I find out that he said he didnt think I would take that much time off What are you kidding me, isnt that like the standard!!!!!!!!!!!!! as pathetic as it is....I am so ******, its bad enough I need to leave my little baby after 10 weeks....am I crazzy for thinking this way!!!!!!!!!

No, you're not crazy for thinking that way as an expectant mother - But as a manager who recently hired a new employee, I can also see why they didn't 'expect you to take that much time off' ........

Well I am actually not that new, I was hired in Feb of 08 but that company was taken over by a bigger company which they say changed my start date to June instead of Feb, which is why they said I cant use FMLA

What ??? - I'd fight that one if I were you -
ESPECIALLY if you're due JUST in time to benefit from FMLA -

That definitely does not sound right. Why did they adjust your start date? Even though a company took over they should have "grandfathered" you. That's odd..have you spoken to HR?

I am in the same boat except my company was just taken over this month!! I have no idea what I am entitiled to as they are keeping my hire date of my old firm. Noone has answers for me and I will probably have to go back after even less than 10 weeks!! I feel your pain!!
