Olsen Twins discuss their homeless/granny chic look.
Pint-sized fashion moguls and Michelle Obama dressers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen sat down for Style.com's "The Future of Fashion" series, to discuss how The Row came to fruition, their design process, and offer insight into their personal style choices, which started becoming a big deal back in 2005, when they enrolled at NYU:
People called it homeless chic or granny chic. There were a lot of terms. But it was a very striking moment. Were you conscious it was happening? Ashley: That moment for us was us waking up, going to school, and not wanting anyone to take our picture. Kind of a piece of protection. Mary-Kate: For me, it was so cold, like the wind chill. How could you not put on 20 things when you're going from Los Angeles to walking through the snow? ... I think it was probably that. And laziness.
Along those lines, neither sister has a Facebook or Twitter account, citing their highly-publicized lives as deterrents. M-K told Style.com, "We've spent our whole lives trying to not let people have that accessibility, so it would go against everything we've done in our lives to not be in the public." And when asked if they hang out with other designers, Ashley remarked, "I mean, honestly, I don't leave my house....I'm friendly with a lot of people, but when it comes down to it, you won't see me actually in that [scene]."Source: Huffington Post

Re: Olsen Twins discuss their homeless/granny chic look.
I kinda assumed this was why, but I feel bad for them. It's a tough life for adults, let alone as kids. But then again, they could've REALLY stepped out of the spotlight and not become fashion designers or whatever it is they do.
