Old wood window in shower
We are renting a 1920's bungalow. There is one bathroom and in the tub/shower there is a window but the window is original to the house, it's a wood window with a wood frame. The window is frosted so it's not the privacy that I am concerned about, it's the window and wood actually rotting from the water and the mold that accumulates in the paint cracks. The window and the molding are painted in high gloss which help a bit but it was painted a long time ago and the paint is starting to crack so mold gets in the cracks and it's impossible to clean without chipping the paint off and I don't want to risk that since the house is so old I'm sure that the layers under the top layer or two of paint are lead based. I don't want it flaking and breathing it in every time I clean. There is a roller shade on there from the previous owners that we keep rolled down for some protection to the window but what else could we do? If it was our home I'd either replace with a non-wood window or take out the window entirely, I hate windows in the shower. But it isn't our home. The landlords don't care, they aren't looking to make a single improvement to the house because they wouldn't make it back when they eventually sold it.

Re: Old wood window in shower
This happened to us when we rented our previous apartment. The windo sill ended up falling apart and the landlords were forced to fix it. Depending on how long you are going to be there I would insist that the landlords fix it or try to do something yourself.

Re: Old wood window in shower
get someone to come in and cap it for you. shouldnt cost too much if your landlords wont cover the cost. even vinyl windows in a shower usually need to be capped with something to cover the wood frame.
