Ok, this is a crazy question, but I need to ask...
Ava is at the age where she wants to know everything there is to know in this world. Fine. What is bothering me is that I can just feel the day is coming when she finds a tampon and asks me what it is. I'm at a loss for what I am going to tell her. There was a point in time where I would have just explained it to her, but now I can see it scaring the bejesus out of her if I tell her the truth. So how do you handle that with a 4 year old? I'm sorry if this is a stupid question, but I've been thinking it for a long time and keep forgetting to ask.

Jaidy is pretty much in the bathroom with me at all times So she sees when I have my period. I just say Mommy has her period, it's something that happens to girls and when you are older you will get yours too. She asked if it hurt and I say sometimes I get a little tummy ache but that's it. I know she doesn't get it but I feel like I am laying the groundwork for when she is old enough to understand.

DD is only 3, but also is always in the bathroom with me.
She saw me wipe once and saw the blood from AF. She asked what is was and I told her it's mommy's boo boo.
And it's funny becasuse now when she sees me and doesn't see the blood she says "oh, you don't have your boo boo anymore." it's cute and I feel it's age appropriate.

My son asked and I just said it's something that ladies use. He accepted that with no questions. I feel I got off easy!

same here. I do not want to ever have to have "THE TALK", I want things to be pretty matter of fact and just part of the things that they just "know" (I hope that makes sense LOL) My kids all know the proper names of their body parts, they know that babies grow in mommies "uterus" (not her "belly"). ETA: they are 7, 5, and 3

Re: Ok, this is a crazy question, but I need to ask...
Same with us. Av is older now and is not in the bathroom with me anymore but from being in the bathroom with me from when she was a baby, she knows what a tampon is etc. She wasn't tramatized by seeing me with my period all these years. She is 10 now so she knows why women get one and knows that she'll be getting hers sooner than later.

haha - I make sure the boys are not around or I lock the door on those weeks! I don't have an answer for that but I find myself asking the same type of questions. I had the radio in the car on the other day and it had a commercial for Trojan condoms...and thought oh no what if my 5 yr old asks what a condom is and quicly changed the station.
