Ok so we are going away on our 1st cruise next weekend and ...

I was wondering since DS will be totally off schedule with sleeping and all if it will affect him even when we come home. Like will it be difficult to get him back to his routine after being off it for a week.

I don't have the type of child that will nap anywhere. If i'm lucky i'll get some catnaps when we are out on the islands walking around. On the ship maybe I'll get a half hour nap if I'm lucky.

I'm a little nervous that i'm gonna have a really cranky baby on this cruise since he won't be having his usual naps. I mean we're not talking a day or 2...it's 7...Chat Icon

I think no matter what - try your best to stick to his schedule. I think he will definitely be off from it, but if you try to stick to his schedule - it will be a better trip for you.

If he naps about the same time every day - then get him back to the room to try and get him to nap.
I think this is the only way for you to stay sane during the trip.

That's fine for the days we are at sea but what about when we are at port on the islands? I can't be going back to the room because we'll be out...

Will you have a stroller that he can lay down in?

Yeah but I don't know how easily he'll fall asleep. But I guess you never know. On the fourth we went on this rooftop to see the macy's fireworks and we had DS in the umbrella stroller. After the show he just fell asleep. It was so funny. He's never done that. He did have a paci. Granted it was a short nap (maybe 15-20 minutes) but it was something.

My other concern is him not being able to get back to his routine once we get home...

Well, maybe because it is 7 days, you may pick up a different vacation schedule....

But I agree with trying to stick to your own as closely as possible. What islands are you going to? Maybe if he takes like a 2pm nap, try to get off the ship early, do your thing and be back on the boat by 2ish and then he can take his nap and be back out for dinner.

We are going on a cruise in January when DS is 8 months old. We are going to Cozumel and Belize. He isn't even getting off the ship in Cozumel, so I am going to *try* to stick to a schedule.

Here's what we did.....................While at sea we tried to stay on nap schedule-1 am nap and 1 pm nap. We were docked 2 days in Bermuda and swinged 1 nap (pm only). You're on vacation and in all honesty try to have a good time without worrying too much. You're child just might surprise you........

We did the early seating and had DD in bed around 8:30pm for the night.

It is possible your child will be off when you come home and just put him to bed at the normal time. DD went right back to her schedule the next day. As i said don't stress it too much.
