ok, so this is kinda strange (I guess)
Long story short : I belong to a foreign forum. It's mostly people from my "old" country . There is one girl who also lives here in the US , in Brooklyn. She is my age and is also married to an American and has a baby girl DD's age . She said hi to me a while ago, so we've been chatting here and there past few months. We have a lot in common . But never met in person (I never even spoke to her on the phone).
Anyway
So she just asked me to be her godmother
 
This is a HUGE honor in my country (and I do feel honored) . But I'm also kinda confused and feel like it's kinda strange that she would ask me this, since we don't really know each other. She said she doesn't really have too many friends from back home, and people she does know , she doesn't want to ask them and she thinks I 'm a great person.......
So she said I can think about it and let her know.
I don't really know what to say. On one hand we are not supposed to say no, unless there is some crazy reason. But on the other hand I don't know her, so now I'm lost . It's not that I don't want to , but ......

LOL OMG that's exactly what my sister said I just feel this is so weird , and she put me in a really awkward position .

wow!
She barely knows you!! What if *you're* some crazy psycho?
I think she should have made a playdate or plans to meet you, and maybe hung out with you on more than one or two occasions before she decided to ask you to take that role.
That would weird me out.

I'm sure she's nice enough but this has a creepy vibe that could get ugly. She may be crazy/clingy/needy/just looking for a connection. If she wants a friend, by all means be her friend, but I wouldn't attach myself to her family like that. I would politely decline.

hmmm being a godparent is a big deal in my culture and it means that you are connected to that person for life.
I would have to say no on that one and just tell her that you have family obligations that will not allow you to take on that responsibility

I would explain to her that while you think she's nice--you don't think its appropriate to be the godmother because it really is such a HUGE deal. Its not something to be taken lightly and by someone she barely knows just because she doesn't "know" anyone else.
She'll probably be hurt, but I'd rather she be a little hurt than agree to be connected to that person and their child forever.

it's same in my culture , so this is one of the reasons (among many others ;)) why I was so shocked when she asked.
So I'm just going to tell her no , sorry but no.
