Definitely NOT a stupid Q...I think its a combination. We were worried more about iritating baby's skin. We only did it for the first 2-3 months.

Not a stupid question. It is so the baby's skin does not get irritated by dyes, perfumes, or harsh chemical additives. We used Dreft until DS was 5 months - it was two big bottles of it and then switched to Tide free and clear which is what I use for DH and I.

i believe it's because of the worry about allergies.

i have a sensitivity to some detergents - so we use Free & Clear stuff - so i have been washing Emma's clothes in that as well....

Re: ok so i have a really stupid question... dont laugh!

A lot of people (including us) have never used Dreft, or any "baby specific" detergent. We tried the regular stuff first, and neither DC had any issues, so we saved ourselves a lot of time and money by just washing the entire household laundry in one load with the cheaper, regular detergent.

Of course, if DC *had* a reaction, we would have switched, but we figured it wouldn't hurt to at least try the regular stuff first.

we used dreft for the first few months, but since then we use the free and clears with no problem. it all depends if your baby's skin is very sensitive or not. Chat Icon

We did it for the allergies or irritation concern.

However, we never used Dreft. We have always used All free and clear. We use that for everything and it is cheaper than dreft.

I plan on washing the baby's stuff in All Free & Clear that I grabbed by mistake when All was BOGO at CVS.

I'll see how it goes ... wasn't planning on buying/using Dreft.
