Im going to need all the help I can get!

If you crochet, how long before you really got the hang of it, were comfortable doing it, and completed your first project?

Speaking of projects, whats a good starter, once I learn the basics?

Ok, no more questions for now, I swear!

Thanks!

Re: One more knitting vs crocheting question

I don't really crochet, so I can't say what can/can't be done with that, but I would say that they're both quite versatile.

Most wearables are knit. Crocheting tends to lead to a more open fabric.

Both are quite versatile, can be simple or intricate. I think it becomes a matter of taste, preference and what feels more natural to you.

This is a swatch of crocheting done in a single crochet stitch. A lot of the afghans you see are crocheted

I taught myself from a book, it didnt take that long before I got the hang of it. Maybe a week? I remember I couldnt wait to get home from work so I could start working on it again. Once you learn the basic stitches, you should learn how to read patterns, and then there is no limit to what you can make.

The best advice I can give is to just keep practicing. You will start at first and be frustrated with your stitches, but you will keep going and all of a sudden you will look down and you will have beautiful, even stitches. Believe me, I've taught lots of people and this is always how it goes. FM if you have any questions.

You can always just make scarves with a single or double crochet, but if you get ambitious, I'd try the granny square first. Its a very simple pattern, but beautiful. this was the first blanket I made.

i would say to get yourself some peaches and cream or sugar and cream cotton yarn... name varies depending on where you buy it, but it's the same thing. it's less than $2/skein. make a few dishcloths/washcloths.

they are small and quick. they also let you practice something new on each one. the best part is that if your stitches aren't very pretty or even, right now... it doesn't matter. you'll be using them to wash things with (either bodies, or dishes) and it doesn't matter how perfect, or not, your stitches are Chat Icon

i wouls also suggest that you join ravelry.com
they are the BEST knit/crochet resource online. it's the best place to ask questions. no matter how odd you think the question is, SOMEONE will have an answer!

can't wait to see your first finished project
