OK I know its sad that I will live vicariously through my infant daughter BUT...
...who cares.
DH asked the landlord if we can paint the room which is REALLY neutral and he said we could. Ed-lie will have the pretty pink princess room that Mommy never had. I really don't give a rat's patootie that her room will be VERY gender specific. I really do not care what anyone thinks about raising a girl like a princess. My kid. My choice.
Story behind the joy and why it means so much to me:
Picture it. Long Island 1983. Leslie was moving upstairs to her older sister's much bigger bedroom after she moved out. Before Leslie leaves for sleepaway camp, she BEGS her mother (may she rest in peace) for a pink room as her sister's red shag carpet from the 70s was no longer cutting it. Mom says "ok." Leslie comes back from sleepaway camp to find a baby blue (though feminine) room. Why blue you ask? Well, she got a deal on the carpet.
It took 25 years but Leslie finally gets to do whatever she damn pleases.
BTW, my mom DID see pictures of the bedding before she passed away and she loved it so I know she would have approved. Man do I miss her now!

Aw I didnt mean to upset anyone. I just chuckle because I come from a retail family and mark-up was always something that my father taught us about. So whenever he could get a good deal, they took it - which was one of the main reasons why my family did not go poor in the late 80s and 90s.

I feel your pain-- my childhood room was BROWN.
Brown wood paneling with brown carpet-- with, you guessed it, dark brown furniture. Seems my room was the guest room that never got redone-- til I was about 11.
And people wonder why I am so negative and cynical.

leslie i can't wait to see how it all comes out - i know that i will be doing to "pretty princess" theme when i have a girl (yes, i said when - DH already knows that if we need to have 8 children until we have a girl, then that's what we'll do )

Nah, no pepto pink. Just enough to be able to detect a HINT of pink-ness. As my mother would say, "You don't want things to look too 'ongepatcheket'." Which is yiddish for "overdone or gaudy".

I love Leslie stories. Your DH's words of wisdom are very important words to live by. The deal on the carpet dont feel alone in this, my parents would probably have done the same thing to me. And not only would it have been a deal most likely my mom would have found it in one of her many catalogs she receives.

I had to look it up. I am sure its spelled eleventy billion ways. BTW, I use that word ALL the time. Sometimes there is no substitute for Yiddish expressions.

I was the same way...I couldn't wait to give my little girl her pretty pink princess room. I still enjoy it everytime I walk in there! Don't forget a chandelier....you can get them for really great prices now!
