Ok decorators come on in!

So I know I posted about using blues in my living room but I came to a realization today...

We chose blue because we wanted to do something different since we always choose browns and earth tones and it would be stupid to try and stay away from them if that's what we like. Our fear is that we are using browns/earth tones in the den with brown couches and don't want it to be too similar. SO after a long day of searching for furniture/colors/fabrics we found what we like!

I could use some help with paint ideas for both rooms.

In our den we will be getting these couches. The den wall connects to the kitchen and we will be painting the kitchen (or at least the shared wall) the same color.
Den Couches

In the living room we will be getting the hartwell sofa and 2 matching chairs.

hartwell chairs (in fabric photo I attached)

The chairs will be in this fabric and the couch will be in a material very similar to the background color of the chairs. I was thinking what color browns would you use in these two rooms? In the living we also have a black grand piano that will be in there...don't know if it changes anything for you! Thanks for your help!!

I love the furniture Lauren! Let me suggest that you do lots of paint samples when you choose a color. That's what we just did for the nursery...there are a LOT of different shades of pink!

Why not stay neutral the way you're comfortable with and do an accent wall? Although I like the options to accessorize when you leave everything neutral. There are so many different ways to incorporate color - area rugs, art work, curtains, pillows etc. Good luck and keep us posted!Chat Icon

Re: Ok decorators come on in!

you def want to go a little darker than the background color on the chairs for some contrast, but not as dark as the brown in the leather chairs.... wait do those two rooms share a wall?

i think you said the kitchen shares a wall...

If that's the case a chocolate brown would look great against the sofa and chairs!! That would also look great in the kitchen (think coffee)! you can bring in accent colors with pillows with red, purple, rust and that would really pop and look gorgeous!!!! if you are afraid of the color being too dark you can always do an accent wall like ang said. try a bunch of swatches in that area. maybe try a camel color as well. our bedroom is a camel color if you remember it is called palm desert sand by benjamin moore. that's a nice medium ground.

good luck! you are off to a great start!!!

just reread your post, if you are putting a black grand piano in the lr the chocolate brown may not look good against it. might be too dark. maybe all camel color or accent wall in chocolate. and this is a stretch but what about a butter color yellow or cream? The yellow would give a very warm feel.

Thanks Dana!

I think I want like a medium brown...not light like the chair fabric, but not dark like chocolate. Anyone have any color recommendations? lol
