Oil burner and pipes in your house
So when we moved into our house, the pipes around the house would make minimal noise when the water ran through them to heat the house. One year later and they are SO NOISY. Lots of clanking and creaking.
Does anyone know what this could be caused by? Do you think that if we emptied the pipes and then let the water back into them, this would fix the problem. I'm just wondering if there could be air pockets in the pipes causing the noise.

Re: Oil burner and pipes in your house
we usually hear bubbling and ticking (baseboard with gas) if its clanking you might have air in the pipes and need to be released. You should have little valves on the line in the basement called bleeders that you can press.
Also not sure if you have a tank that is for the excess old water (we have one) that needs to be drained as well every season. (expansion tank)

It's usually air in the pipes. There should be release valves on some of the registers. Go to the highest one in the house, and open it up for a few seconds. It should release some of the air.

I'll have to have DH do this, I never noticed registers on the pipes before ( I had the casing off to vacuum the dust out).
To another poster, we had the expansion tank replaced recently, but the noise was the same before and after. I'll have him look at the boiler for valves as well.
I'm gonna have DH look at this tonight. It's starting to wake DS up in the middle of the night when the heat kicks on.
