oil??

i grew up in a house with gas, and the house we are buying has oil. i have no idea how what goes into having oil. how much do you usually pay to fill the tank? how long does it last? (i know this will vary by use and size of house, ours is a 3 bedroom split)

It all depends on thank size. You can go on a budget plan with an oil company per the year usuage. They will estimate when you are new customer. In summer months they may come once and then not again till it's cold. Once it's colder, depending on the temp. they will come once a month or every other.
Last year we received 6 drops of oil. Each time was about 300-400 each time. We do a budget plan for $180 a month... HTH

We use COD oil so we do not have a contract. When we need oil we call up. It is cheaper that way. I am not positive how big our tank is I think it may be 275 gallons, and it cost about 500 to fill up. We keep it pretty cold so we only fill up about 3 times a year. Most people would probably be about 5 times. Otherwise, you can call around to companies and see who is the cheapest and who has the best service contract. Once a year the burner needs to be serviced-basically cleaned and checked. Sometimes the oil company throws it in for free, otherwise its around 100-200 bucks. HTH!
