Re: Oh no

It is such a hard thing to go through!! My son was sick like that back and fourth for the first 2 years of his life. Besides doing the steam you could try patting his back like your burping him but start at the bottom and work your way up. That help losen the junk in his lungs and helps get rid of it for him!! If you can try and have him sleep elevated that helps with the congestion. I know how devistating it is when they are sick like this especially when you hear those kinds of sounds from your little one!! Night time is always the worst!! If you have any questions feel free to FM or anything!! I can try and help as much as possible!!! Hope he is feeling better this morning!! Lots of Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon

Re: Oh no

Could he have an allergy to something that is causing the cough problems? NOT a doctor, by maybe something to look into?

Is he in daycare? Daycare babies are often getting sick. I know because Molly gets colds and coughs so dam often. People send their children to daycare very sick somedays and don't have any regard for the other children when they do that.

No- he actually has no exposure to any children- unless we are out in a store, or visiting family....

I dont know what he'd be allergic too.....(do you mean like spring allergys???)

The croup is a very defined cough- and is not an infection, and is only in your throat.....So I dont know if its something you could mistake for something else....Chat Icon

Re: Oh no

Ok since I once worked a few hours away from a medical school, I'll pretend to be a doctor today.

Allergies can exacerbate a condition like croup. If he has cold-like symptoms, post nasal drip will cause a regular cough.

Croup is the bronchial passages closing up (hence the wheeze as they try are breathing but not enough oxygen is getting to the lungs). Cold air helps croup as if you were putting something cold on a swollen ankle.

While he doesn't have exposure to children, do other people around him? I know you don't work in a classroom, but you're around them. How have the adults around him been feeling? "Croup" in an adult is just general malaise & a cold.

As for it coming & going, he probably never got over it to begin with. Stay on the cool mist humidifier, even if you think it's gone. If you think he's getting worse, give him the steroids. If it will save you an ER trip in the middle of the night or give his lungs the strength it needs to fight the virus, it will be worth it.Chat Icon Chat Icon Chat Icon
