Oh My!!

So we are not covered for IVF on either of our insurances - so it is all out of pocket. I was lucky that insurance covered a lot of the medications!

Anyway, I get a call from my RE's office confirming they are going to charge my credit card for IVF + PGD. I was kind of prepared for it but it was still a shocking $13k.

Then.... I get home to find two bills from the lab for our mandatory preliminary blood work for IVF - get this - a total of $2,500.

Holy freakin' moly!

I have to call my insurance company but I am totally freaked!

I feel your pain- we are in the same boat- Insurance doesnt cover anything-not even meds (which are $$$$)....I was able to get the grant this past cycle luckily, but next cycle may be a different story...Did you inquire about the grant ?...Here is the link

Re: Oh My!!

$13K total?

IMO thats a great deal. WOW...

We paid close to 10K and that was WITH the NYS Mandate grant of almost $10K ...And NO PGD.

But yes, its sooo hard to swallow the money needed for this.

Hang in there! Chat Icon

Re: Oh My!!

Yikes. How much did they quote you for PGD? They quoted me $11K for one fresh/one frozen and a year of storage. Is PGD only another $2K? Are you doing ICSI? I wondered if our practice had a competitive price...

Re: Oh My!!

Thank you for sharing in my shock.

My IVF cost includes one fresh cycle and the PGD. I just reviewed the financial summary and am not sure that includes ICSI if needed - b/c that's another $2,500. I just sent the financial director an e-mail requesting help in determining if we are eligible for any part of the grant. Fingers crossed!

Re: Oh My!!

We're in the same boat too. We're a small business and our insurance dosen't offer IVF to SB. None of them do. I guess I should have stayed at my corporate job a little longer where we were covered for 2 cycles. Ours starts at $9,715+. Using the credit card at least will give us reward points towards something. I don't think we quality for the grant, I think we're just out of the income range. I think we're try anyway, who knows. Yeah, I just sent an e-mail to my RE's office but I don't think we will qualify either. But figured it worth a shot.
