Official Introduction!

I wanted to wait until my first doctor's appt, but I have some questions, so I guess I'll come out now!

DH and I started "not preventing" back in August, and I got my BFP on Black Friday!!!! This will be our first little one, so I'm sure I'm going to have a TON of questions for the pros on here, including my first question:

I have my first appointment scheduled for next Thursday and they're telling me it's a new OB appointment and an ultrasound. What should I expect???

You're lucky your doc will see you so soon. Most wait till you are at least 6 weeks.
If doc said you will get an ultrasound, it will be internal. Just wanted to let you know, cuz I wasn't prepared at my first doc!

I have no idea. I had what I thought was AF from 11/14 to 11/18 and I started testing with an OPK on 11/19, got one circle, and then a smiley for the next 6 days....Finally someone on TTC mentioned that several positive OPK's could indicate pregnancy, so I took a test on Black Friday and got my BFP! I took a digital to confirm, another on Saturday, and another this morning, and all BFP's! I guess that what I thought was AF might have actually been implantation.

I explained this to the receptionist at my OB/GYN and it sounds like they think I'm about 6 weeks or so. I'm just so confused right now, but they decided they wanted to give me an ultrasound, so I'll take their word for it.

ahhh, congratulations, Laura!! So happy for you Happy and Healthy pregnancy!!!

eta: I was 7 1/2 weeks at my first appt and had my ultrasound a couple of days later just to confirm due date. It is an internal and not sure if they told you but you are supposed to have a full bladder for it. During the first OB visit they weighed me, took blood pressure, urine test, and asked tons of questions about my medical history and Dh's as well. I also got a pap smear because I was due for one.

Thanks Mrs. S They didn't tell me to have a full bladder....just not to wear perfume, lol (it's a new rule in their office).

I had an ultrasound at 6w2d - to give you an idea of what you might see, look at the first picture in my "baby bear" album

they were able to show me the heartbeat, it was hard to see but it was a tiny flicker on the screen. BUT - not everyone is able to see or hear it at that time, especially when you don't know exactly how far along you are (i knew because i had been temping).

bring a list of any questions you may have - you will be amazed at how quickly you start to forget things now.

Since you're not sure how far along you are, you could see different things. Most likely you'll see at least a sac and yolk sac and if you're far enough maybe even a heartbeat. Good luck!

BTW, I was never told to have a full bladder for my internals but you could double check with your office.

Yay Laura! Congratulations and welcome!! So excited to see you over here!

As far as the full bladder goes.. when having a transvaginal u/s it's hard to see when the bladder is so full because the bladder becomes so large and pushes on the uterus. Not optimal anatomical position for viewing. Transabdominal on the other hand, full bladder is encouraged. But you shouldn't be having a transabdominal u/s for quite a while yet.
Maybe the pp was asked to have a full bladder to give a urine sample..
