Office suck ups

Maybe I'm grouchy, but the holidays really bring out the kiss ass in people. Seeing my coworkers bringing in lavish gifts for the managers that they piss and moan about 365 days a year is sickening.

It got me thinking about a previous post that said you're supposed to buy "down" and not up in the corporate environment. Not a single person does that here. They all buy for their managers. Not a singe person I work for bought anything for their staff, or even so much as a card with a thank you.

Sorry for the rant, I'm feeling unappreciated.

That irritates me too, I did not give a gift to my director, and she did not give me one.

Last yr she all of us, but our secret Santa was cancelled so I think that's why. I did not want to take part last yr bc 2 A-holes were me telling with a list of gifts they would not accept, I dont need that stress

I feel your pain. We are a small office and we didnt even get a lunch, gift card , nothing. We have only 2 admins here , myself and another lady - you would think they could have the decency to do something for us. I am feeling unappreciated and a moron. They must be thinking oh she doesnt say anything she must be a real idiot!

My boss is cheap and doesn't buy anything for me. Not even a $10 bottle of wine.
Even though I am his right hand and have been through 3 companies since 2002 when I started with him.

So you better believe I'm not buying shit for him.

I buy for my 2 direct reports- and one of them gave me a token gift today- $20 gift card. Which was super nice of her- but I totally did NOT expect anything from anyone who reports to me.

My office is full of kiss asses - I work for a Japanese company.
I never get anything from my managers for the holidays.
This year I did get 2 gifts from one of my vendors, which surprised me, but made me feel really appreciated.
Shame that it had to come from an outside company.

I would never buy a gift for my boss. I find that really odd. Although I did ultimately marry my boss, but we weren't together while we worked together!

I never bought my boss anything. My last boss, I think at the holidays I might have treated him to a coffee and bagel or maybe bought his sandwich once. He would take all his direct staff out to dinner and play. That was nice.

I'll never forget one holiday when I was working for a senior executive at an Investment Bank. The entire floor was senior execs, CEO, COO, etc. All the assistants received fantastic gifts, a fur coat (before it was taboo), a trip to the Caribbean, thousands of dollars. My boss gave me a plastic flower to put on my desk. It was so ludicrous that I couldn't even get mad, I just laughed. Every time one of the senior execs walked past my desk they'd ask about that atrocious flower and I told them all it was my christmas bonus from XX. He looked like a fool. lol.
