Office Ettiquite...rude/selfish?

So I am new to this office location but been with my company for 5.5 years. In this new location i share an office with a woman. My desk is directly under the air conditioning vent and it's blowing directly on me and i'm freezing. Is it rude and selfish for me to talk to the office manager and see if they can lower it or shut it? I just don't want to be rude...but I need gloves!!

i'd ask the person who you share the office with first. if you go behind her back and it gets warm, in my office she'd be b!tching about you for years!

maybe ask for a space heater hoping they'll get the hint?

I would tell her that you are going to ask the OM to find a way to redirect the air vents. That happens around here all the time but there are more people with fans then space heaters.

I don't think it's rude or selfish though you should need outerwear to sit at your desk and do your job.

This was a constant struggle at my old job. The people who had offices were warm and the people who didn't were cold.

I wound up getting on a ladder and taping some cardboard to one side of the vent to block it from blowing directly on me. Chat Icon

I would ask your office mate first. I think going behind her back would be a little selfish.

If she doesn't want the temperature changed, I would then suggest you get a space heater or even offer to switch desks, so she could be under the vent.

If she doesn't go for that, I would ask what she suggests (put the ball in her court).

If she is just being disagreeable and not willing to compromise on anything, then I would go to the office manager.
