****** Off at DH

My hubby just informed me that he is taking his time off ("paternity leave" ) starting next week, and that he already told his job this and prepped his coworkers etc.

Now I am 40 weeks today but will likely not have this baby until next saturday- when I will be induced. Basically DH will be using his time off stayhing home for a week staring at the walls and then go back to work when baby is 1 week old.

There is no reason for him to take off other than I think he is just ready to take some time off bc he is miserable at his job and doesnt want to wait another week for "vacation"- he says that he wants to take care of some personal stuff too while he is home for a week.

NOt for nothing but am I crazy for being royally ****** off!? I took my maternity leave a week before my due date and Im actually the one that is pregnant and was commuting to the city, and working long hours and I even felt guilty like I should work up until I deliver. The fact that he is taking a week off before baby comes seems absurd to me.. I am sooo mad!

I totally agree with you. You would want him to be home when the baby actually arrives...that's when you need him the most. Can you just explain this to him?

There would be war at my hous if this was the case. What personal stuff can be more important than spending time with his newborn and wife? I would talk with him and explain to him what paternity leave means. Very different than vacation time.

I'd feel the same way unless he had to take that week off to finish up the nursery or cook and freeze weeks worth of food, I would be very angry.

I agree with you. This wouldnot fly with me. Have you talked to him about it and how it would be helpful for him to take off for when the baby's here?

Thanks ladies! Yes I have explained to him, and I mean, I dont need to anyway since he KNOWS all of this. His response is he knows I think its sellfish but he needs the time off to take care of things and -- his cake topping response-- well if he only had one week off from work we'd manage and I was just being nervous.

What do you do with THAT kind of response!?

PS the things he needs to take care of have NOTHING to do with the baby-- more to do with taking care of paper work etc.
