Ocular Migraines
Anyone get these? How often?
I had my first one in March and was terrified. I've had a handful since then. The opthamologist says it's basically a painless migraine but should I be concerned that the last 2 were followed by terrible migraines?? I have an appointment with my GP on Monday but just wanted to see what others do.

Ocular Migraines
I used to get them, I haven't in awhile. They were definitely scary but made me feel better once I knew what they were. My doctor actually said its basically like the aura of the migraine and sometimes that's all you get, but other times it can be followed by the actual migraine pain. I know for me, hormones affected when I got ocular migraines.

Go to that appointment. My brother had what was thought to be an ocular migraine one week - his doctor's description. It was the worst pain he had ever had headache-wise. The next week he collapsed from an aneurysm bleed in his brain which was probably the cause of his pain the week before. Fortunately he is alright, but it was a close call.

Yes I get them. A few times years ago. And a few more times in the past year or so. For me I think humidity has to do with it. Like when the barometric pressure drops. It starts where I see dark spots or white spots like after a camera flash. Moves from one eye to the other and I can see even when eyes are closed. It lasts about 10-15m and is followed by a dull headache. I usually pop aleve at the first sign as its a Vaso dialiator.
I've never had any sort of horrible horrific pain. The first time it happened I was so scared I got a cat scan.
Oh and I know two other people that have gotten them and both experienced losing the ability to talk and actually articulate what hey wanted to say. One was admitted and they am thought she was having a stroke.

Re: Ocular Migraines
It's 2 different things. An ocular migraine is when you get the visual disturbance and no headache.
When you get the visual disturbance and a headache after it's a migraine with aura.
If you google the difference between ocular migraine and migraine with aura it will give you a good explanation of the difference

If you saw a neurologist for this what was the outcome?
Like I said I get them but with a dull headache after. Nothing horrible. I've never had a migraine before and don't get headaches often. I had a CAT scan and it was normal. I will take aleve when it happens and that makes the headache go away.
So I am curious what a neurologist would do for me? I don't need stronger meds and am now worried do I need care Bc it could develop into something more sinister?

DH gets them. He went to a neurologist to rule out something horrific as the cause.

They would probably just do a catscan to rule out anything bad but fact is migraines are very common and there isn't much they can do for them other than meds that I do NOT like the side effects and risks of. I go a more natural route for my migraines and so far it has worked very well.

Re: Ocular Migraines
I use to get them a lot. First started in 2004. They eased off for a few years and then came back after I had my son. I also suffer from severe migraines..
