Occupiers stage protest at Smith Haven Mall

Apparently there is a protest at Smith Haven Mall in conjunction with Occupy Wall street - has anyone been there?

Re: Occupiers stage protest at Smith Haven Mall

I just saw this on News12.com. While I really, really feel bad for the mom and pop stores, that the big chains are running them out of business and the village shopping areas are like deserts now, these mom and pop stores aren't paying my bills and don't get my salary. I have to look out for my family first and foremost and that means that most of the time I have to shop and stores like Target and whatnot because they can offer the stuff for so much cheaper. I do try and support local business, especially in my village but we are on a super tight budget and have to go where things are cheapest. It stinks, it really does. I wish we were better off so that I can shop at all these small shops and when I see them close down, my heart breaks. I think about a dream gone, a family out of a business, an income and probably in debt. I think of another empty storefront. Ugh, I wish it was like it was in the 50's again. Small stores where customer service was super important, where shop owners knew your name, where quality was king.

Re: Occupiers stage protest at Smith Haven Mall

I agree with pp. The mom and pop stores tend to be very expensive compared to big retail stores and if I'm buying something, I go for the cheapest price. Quality seems to have gone out the window lately, so you might as well NOT spend a lot since almost everything is disposable (in a sense) now. I now do most of my food shopping at Target instead of the supermarket because prices are soooo much lower.
