OB Vent
I'm so frustrated with my OB practice. I'm at 39 weeks so thankfully I don't have to deal with them much longer. Throughout my entire pregnancy I would always look forward to my appointments thinking they will give me some great insight on the baby and how he's doing, etc. But each time I'd go it be a 3 minute appointment where they measure my belly, get the heartbeat, stick me on the scale and field any questions I had while walking out the door. So, I figured once I got to 36 weeks at least I'd start getting internals and they could tell me something.Well, at 39 weeks I still haven't even had an internal. No growth sono. Nothing. They said they don't do internals until I pass my due date. I'm so upset because I wish they would just tell me something...even if it is just that there isn't a progress. I feel so in the dark all the time. I have no idea if I'm dilated, effaced, how big he is. Everytime someone asks me how my doctor's appt went all I can said is "well, I'm still pregnant and that's all I know". I'm extremely grateful that I've had a healthy pregnancy and have felt great the whole time. But now that I'm nearing the end I just feel like I'm not getting the prenatal care that everyone on this board talks about because it seems as if my doctor doesn't do any of the standard tests. I go back on Thursday. We'll see what they say. Probably nothing. Thanks for letting me vent! I'm getting so impatient now, and I'm not even due yet!

Re: OB Vent
I feel that way too. They keep calling my baby big, but I don't even know an approximate size. Tomorrow I'm making the doctor stay because I'm asking 100 questions. I might even tell her to sit down because it'll be a while.

Re: OB Vent
That is wierd that they dont do internals unless you pass your due date. I had a few of them toward the end of the pregnancy...

Re: OB Vent
You know what, when I was pregnant, I felt the SAME way, and I spoke up and said something to my dr., and she sat down and listened to me and answered all of my questions. From then on, she was super attentive. I think that, many times, they forget their bedside manner when it comes to pregnancies since they see so many everyday. They forget how hard it is to be pregnant and not have a clue. Speak up, and if you dont' get your answers, I say ON TO THE NEXT DR! I'd just get through the rest of your pregnancy and start searching for someone new. I guess they figure if everything is fine, there's nothing to tell, but for us, that's just not enough and they need to know.

Re: OB Vent
Thanks...to make it worse it is a practice of 6 doctors and 1 midwife so I don't even see the same person all the time. I'm going to speak up about it on Thursday to see if they'll do the internal even though I'm not due for another 5 days. I guess they're numb to the excitement of a first time mom, they should try and show a little more support.
Next baby = new doctor.

Re: OB Vent
I also think it is because pregnancy becomes routine to them but it is not to you. Be a big mouth and ask your questions. On one visit, I asked my doctor, as she was walking out of the room on a very busy day at their office, when I could have a chance to talk to her about cord blood banking. She came back in and spoke to me about it for 1/2 hour!!!

Re: OB Vent
i know that a lot of dr dont do internals often, but to not do them until you pass your due date? ive never heard of that??? i would be frustrated too!!!
also - usually they only order a growth sono if they suspect there may be something wrong. when i went for mine, the tech was actually kinda annoyed that i was there if there was no "problem" with my pregnancy!!
at this pt there isnt much u can do since u are due next week, but i would probably look into another practice next time around...its nice to have a relationship with your dr and not feel rushed!!!
