NYS PFL/ FMLA?
I noticed a new charge on my paycheck called PFL. I asked HR about it, but in the meantime i googled.
i found this article: PFL
ummm did i miss something?
paid leave / FMLA is now separate from disability? (an extension of) and for part time employees as well? and increased to 8 then later 10& 12 weeks? and more $$ paid by state?
anyone have more details or know if i am reading this wrong?

Yup as of 1/1/18 it's paid FMLA. Didn't realize we would be charged this soon, how much was yours?

Re: NYS PFL/ FMLA?
It's a new NY law that is in addition to FMLA. Basically you are entitled to paid time off for certain medical situations (reasons similar to FMLA). I think it's up to 8 weeks off - like I said, in addition to FMLA. However the employer pays nothing - it is entirely employee funded - you pay for it whether you use it or not. So yes everyone's paychecks will start to look a little smaller this month. I forgot what the percentage was that they take out, I think it's around 1%. So if anyone got a 1% raise this year, it's now gone.

Re: NYS PFL/ FMLA?
honestly I don't know all the details but from what I understand....if you are the employee and you are pregnant, no it will not change anything for you except that you may be entitled to MORE time off
if you are an employee and the husband and your wife is pregnant, yes you could take time off - which I don't think they could have done under regular NYS disability to care for a wife
it's not full pay that you get - there is a sliding scale calculation of how much you get while you are out that I think maxes out at 50%

Re: NYS PFL/ FMLA?
If you go to ny.gov and search
"New York State Paid Family Leave" Act there are FAQs.

I think it's going to be great for anyone who previously had unpaid maternity leave. At least now there will be something more than the absurd state disability.

It's .126% not 1%
Works out to $126 per $100k a year deduction
