Nyc teachers... Thoughts?
My sis in law interviewed yesterday and was told they are still interviewing today as well. She was emailed today and said they nominated her and she can go to court street to get a file number so she has it.
What do you think? Would they do this if they werent considering hiring her?

Probably not. But it's really helpful to have a file number going forward (even to sub) if they wind up going with someone else.

There's an official nomination email that goes out from the DOE. She actually can't go down to court street until she gets the nomination email because there's paperwork she needs to complete attached to it on the Applicant Gateway. Once she does that then she can do her I9 form down at court street.
Hope that was helpful!

She might do better calling HR Connect or HR for her schools network to ask about the file number, but typically she has to go through the motions of the online hiring process.

exactly, either way it is a good thing. It is unlikely they would offer her a nomination and not hire her but if they do well now she has a file # so she is one step closer!

Obviously the most important thing is that your SIL has a job, which it sounds like she does.
However, the P is wrong about needing a file number to be hired. You are payrolled through your social security number and get a file number AFTER that is processed. It's a myth you need a file number to be hired, but, unfortunately some Ps still have this antiquated misconception.

With that said, if the school thinks she need to schlep to court st to get the job, then I guess it would be worth the trip.

You do not need a file number to be hired DOE for special education. DOE will however, only hire common branch teachers with file numbers for the most part to ensure they employee excessed teachers first for those positions.
